What Does “Cargo” Mean?
Cargo : refers to various goods or items transported by airplane, consisting of merchandise and mail, but
excluding passengers’ baggage.
Consolidation Cargo: Goods collected by a space-selling agent (Consolidator) from multiple exporters with the
same destination to reduce transportation costs per unit when using the same Master Air Waybill.
Transfer Cargo: Transshipped goods or those transferred at an airport from one flight to another, possibly within
the same airline or to a different one.
Transit Cargo: Goods transferred between flights, or unloaded from one flight to be loaded onto another
Advantages and Disadvantages of Air Freight
Advantages
1. Shorter transportation time.
2. New products, especially in fashion, can be quickly distributed to global markets.
Disadvantages
1. High operational costs due to higher freight rates compared to other modes.
2. Dependence on weather conditions, which can be a barrier to transportation.
Regarding the types of aircraft commonly used for air freight, there are generally three
categories:
1. Passenger Flight.
2. Combi Flight (Combination of Passenger & Main deck Loader).
3. Cargo Flight (Charter Flight / Cargo Flight / Freighter).
